AFTER YOUR SURGERY

Taking care of yourself after surgery is crucial for a recovery. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions, rest adequately and avoid any strenuous activities. Attending your scheduled post-operative appointment at your eye doctor's office allows them to monitor your healing process and address any concerns you may have. Remember, prioritizing your health during this time will help ensure the best possible outcome.

After Cataract Surgery:

EYE DROPS
If you were prescribed eye drops to use after surgery, administer them as directed by your surgeon
DIET
1. Eat a light lunch
2. Eat a normal dinner
3. No alcoholic beverages for 24 hours
ACTIVITY
1. Rest
2. Read or watch television as desired
3. Bath/shower as directed by your surgeon
4. Do not drive until instructed to do so
5. Use CPAP machine for naps and sleep, if history of sleep apnea.
6. If applicable; return to work will be discussed at your follow-up
appointment.
TREATMENT/WHAT IS EXPECTED:
1. Keep your eye protected with the eye shield/pad or glasses until you
see your doctor.
2. Wear eye shield at bedtime.
3. Minimal to moderate pain is possible. If you have pain, take Tylenol
***If your pain persists, call your eye doctor***
4. Normal post-op body responses include tears/watery eyes, scratchy,
foreign body sensation, sensitivity to light and fluctuation in vision.

After Corneal Transplants or Pterygium Removal:

EYE MEDICATION
Start your eye medication the next day or as instructed by your surgeon.
DIET
1. Eat a light lunch
2. Eat a normal dinner

ACTIVITY
1. Rest the remainder of the day and have limited physical activity.
2. Read or watch television as desired
3. Bath/shower as directed by your surgeon
4. Do not drive until instructed to do so
5. Use CPAP machine for naps and sleep, if history of sleep apnea.
6. If applicable; return to work will be discussed at your follow-up
appointment.
TREATMENT/WHAT IS EXPECTED:
1. Keep your eye patch on for the rest of the day and you can remove it
the next day.
2. Minimal to moderate pain is possible. If you have pain, take Tylenol

3. Normal post-op body responses include tears/watery eyes, scratchy,
foreign body sensation, bruising, minimal/mild swelling and fluctuation
in vision.

After Eye Lid Surgery:

Normal post-op body

responses include tears/watery eyes, bruising,
minimal/mild swelling, some pain/discomfort.
2. Apply ice compresses continuously as tolerated for 48 hours.
3. Apply ointment to suture line in the morning and at bedtime, starting
today.
4. Do NOT take aspirin compounds for 5 days after surgery.
5. Take Tylenol as needed for discomfort. Call the doctor if pain becomes severe.
6. You may take showers or baths at any time. Wash your hair 2 days after
surgery.
7. You may start to wear eye makeup the day after your sutures are
removed.
8. Rest as much as possible the first 24 hours after surgery.
9. Use CPAP machine for naps and sleep, if history of sleep apnea.
